4 Tips to Escape Judgement in Figure Skating

  1. Reframe Your Anxiety As Energy

Skating is 80% mindset, 20% physical strength.  If your mind isn’t in the right place to skate, everything feels more difficult. If you’re feeling nervous when you’re on the ice, try reframing that feeling into energy that will help you move with ease instead of feeling stuck in place.

2. Change Your Clothes

Buy a few new skating outfits & only wear them to practice.  This will help trick your brain into focusing only on your skating.  Think of it like a light switch going from off to on. These outfits should make you feel unstoppable & put you in the right state of mind to dominate on the ice.

3. Start a Practice Routine

Like reframing your anxiety into energy, you must reframe your routine as well.  Your practice session starts off the ice. Set your intention for practice before leaving your house, or while on the drive to the rink.  Before you step foot on the ice, start warming up your body for movement through stretching & light cardio. Repeat your intentions to yourself or to a friend for added accountability & focus.

4. Remember Nobody is Perfect

Remember that compliments aren’t everything…unless you’re giving them to yourself.  Blocking out the noise of other people’s opinions, means you try to stay focused on how you feel, more than how others view you. You’re capable of the intentions you put your mind to.  Doing your personal best is enough!
